I’ve been really interested in slimming down items in my closet and after hearing about Project 333 from other blogs I follow, I decided now is the time to do so starting on September 1st- let my three month journey begin! Here are the rules:

The Basics
When: Every three months (It’s never too late to start so join in anytime!)
What: 33 items including clothing, accessories, jewelry, outerwear and shoes.
What not: these items are not counted as part of the 33 items – wedding ring or another sentimental piece of jewelry that you never take off, underwear, sleep wear, in-home lounge wear, and workout clothing (you can only wear your workout clothing to workout)
How: Choose your 33 items, box up the remainder of your fashion statement, seal it with tape and put it out of sight.
What else: consider that you are creating a wardrobe that you can live, work and play in for three months. Remember that this is not a project in suffering. If your clothes don’t fit or are in poor condition, replace them.

I actually opted to donate a lot of the clothes that didn’t make the cut- if I didn’t remember wearing the piece in the past year, if it was damaged, or didn’t fit I just let it go. It was hard at first, but it got much easier and almost fun to get rid of so many useless items and give them away to someone who could use them more. I noticed that I bought a lot of things in all the colors possible when I found something I liked. I had five pairs of skinny trouser pants: black, navy, maroon, olive, and tan. I honestly only remember wearing the black pants for a recital and the tan pants for interviews. I don’t even really like how they fit, but I always have a hard time finding pants that are long enough for my 36″ inseam. I knew right off the bat I needed to just get rid of the obscure colors that I knew I would never wear. And hopefully in the near future, I can find a pair of black and tan trouser pants that I like even more to replace the ones I don’t particularly like.

Also, a lot of the items are still practically new, and therefore I have opted to try and sell them on Ebay or at a consignment shop in town. So hopefully I can get a bit of cash back for items I don’t wear anymore! Here’s a link to my Ebay shop if you’re interested in seeing what I have for sale at the moment.

Something that makes this process a bit more difficult is the dress code difference between my two jobs. One I am allowed to wear dark jeans, while the other I have to wear some sort of dress/trouser pant. Perhaps if I find a style of trousers I love, this won’t be as huge of an issue. But at the moment, I only have jeans that I’m really comfortable in, and therefore I’m wondering which jeans/trousers will make the cut.

I have a bit of an obsession with shoes and scarves, so those items weren’t included in the 33 items this time around. Perhaps after living minimally for three months I’ll be more apt to slim down my shoe and scarf collection. For now the 33 items only include tops and bottoms. Look forward to selfies each day to show how you can make 33 items into a unique outfit every day!

Do you have any advice on minimizing your wardrobe? I’d love to hear about your experiences!

And just for cuteness, a picture of my cat Myrtle. Have a lovely Labor Day!

Lets just say it was one of those mornings where my alarm decided to sleep in somehow. I was supposed to be at work at 8:00am and unfortunately that’s when I woke up. So I thought I would share what I do to get ready in record time! Below are eight things I can’t leave the house without:

Thankfully today wasn’t a wash hair day, but if it was I would load on the dry shampoo and let is sit while I get dressed- and probably plug in my straightener too, just in case there’s a few hairs not cooperating. I usually add dry shampoo even if I don’t particularly need it. It adds great texture and makes it look like you took time to style it. Also a huge fan of my straightener, purchased at TJ Maxx. It’s white with a champagne color which has slowly become one of my favorite colors.

Also, my makeup routine is reduced so I only add the essentials- Ulta Fabulous Face Concealer applied with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (if necessary…but honestly always is), mascara (at the moment using Tarte’s Lights, Camera Lashes), and a bit of eyeliner (Sonia Kashuk).

I’m always terrible at picking out an outfit, but when I’m in a hurry it seems to be even more difficult. Scanning my closet multiple times and saying to myself “I have nothing to wear,” I finally settle on something quick, comfortable and work-friendly.

No time for breakfast, so I put some Grapefruit juice in a water bottle with a couple ice cubes and grab a yogurt and applesauce for snacking throughout the day…I need to go grocery shopping.

It’s usually around this time that my cat, Myrtle gets super upset that I’m not giving her attention. A quick pat on the head will have to suffice until I get home later. But it’s hard to say no to this face:

I spray on some perfume (White Citrus from Bath and Body Works), deodorant, and brush my teeth as I walk around getting things in my bag for the day: wallet, IPad, book, name tag, and earphones.

And I’m out the door in record time! Any tips you have to get ready in the morning quickly? Let me know in the comments below!

Have you ever wished that someone would style outfits for you? Maybe pick out items that are right up your alley without leaving the house? Well thanks to Stitch Fix you can do that!

If you’ve never heard of Stitch Fix, it’s a super simple process. First you fill out a fashion profile so the stylists can get to know what style you like to wear- or would like to wear more of. Then you can link your Pinterest style board (because come on guys, you know you have one) so they get even more of an idea of items you like. You pay $20 for them to send five items of clothing in the mail for you to try on and send back what you don’t like- it’s as simple as that! Also, if you decide to keep something in the box, the $20 fee to ship the box gets deducted from the item’s price. So technically the box would get shipped for free and you get $20 off the item! And if you decide to buy everything in the box you also get 25% off the total of all five items! Pretty cool, right? Your welcome.

Here’s the line up of items I got this month (and get ready guys, because this might be one of my favorite fixes yet!):

PicMonkey Collage(I am absolutely in love with the color combos in this fix- just sayin’)

Vinnie Open Crochet Detail Cardigan: Was a bit worried it would be granny-ish, but I love the lace-like detail on the back and the cream color. It should go with just about anything in my closet! I like it, but I don’t love it.

Jace Dot Print Fit & Flare Dress: I love this dress! Super stretchy and comfortable, and a lovely subtle print in a great color for me. Also it isn’t super short, which seems to be a theme with my long legs and regular dresses. If I throw on a cardigan, I would totally wear this to work or even a night out!

Henry Birds on Branch Infinity Scarf: I love scarves, so it’s hard to turn one down. I don’t have one in this vibrant blue, and I like the pattern. Not super in love, but I do like it. Lightweight material and a bit casual for my usual outfits.

Holden Striped Sheer Shortsleeve Blouse: I really like the cut of this blouse- a lot. I also really love the color scheme. Probably, most likely a definite keeper.

Corinna Striped Heathered Dolman Top: I’ve been into stripes lately and I really like how this top can be dressed up for a work day, but dressed down for a casual lunch. It’s also quite long which is awesome for me and the 3/4 sleeves make it great for any season.

I recently went to my hairdresser and she finally said the words I’ve been waiting months to hear: my hair is officially a bob style! It was quite the long and at times annoying process, but I persevered and I’m so glad I did!

Below is a picture from the end of September 2013 when I decided to start growing my hair out:

I must say that my new bob does take a little more time/effort to style, which I’m not that used to coming from a pixie cut. I blow dry my hair after washing and sometimes certain hairs like to flip out and I have to straighten them or pin them out of the way. Some days it just doesn’t want to cooperate and takes multiple bobby pins to style it decently before I walk out the door. But all in all, I’ve had the most fun with this length of hair so far.

A few things about the picture collage below:

1. It was late at night and I was getting a little silly.

2. I didn’t have a lick of makeup on (au naturel, right?)

3. I wanted to show how versatile this hair-length is: you can wear it down, pin the bangs back, or even have a cute ponytail. The possibilities are endless!

PicMonkey Collage5Have you ever thought about getting a pixie cut? What do you think of the bob length?

One more question: should I get bangs?? Help me decide in the comments below!

I must say it took me quite a few years to become okay with wearing heels. I’ve always been self conscious about my height and even wearing flats I’m taller than all of my friends. But eventually I realized that if I wanted to wear heels I could- no matter what other people thought. Besides, it makes my legs look miles long- oh yeah! I tend to gravitate towards shorter heels, and of course heels with gold hardware. It’s not a huge collection, but it is growing slowly but surely. Here’s what I have so far beautifying my shoe rack:

PicMonkey Collage4I’m a size 11 in Women’s shoes which is sometimes a hassle to find, but sometimes that means that my size is almost always in stock. All you tall ladies out there: how do you feel about heels? Let’s be tall, sexy women and heel it up together!

I did it. I ran a 5k. And what better way to do it than with friends, coworkers, and wearing a tutu?

After having a relaxing day in Sarasota for my first day in Florida, we headed to Disney for my first Disney World experience EVER. And it was for sure something I’ll never forget. The parks were huge, parking was an experience, and the transportation to the parks made it seem like you were in a city instead of a theme park. It was quite convenient to park and then jump on a train to whichever park you wanted.

On the first day we went to three of the four parks: Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios.

PicMonkey Collage

PicMonkey Collage2Favorite ride of the day: Tower of Terror. Seriously amazing. Least favorite ride: It’s a Small World. Seriously creepy.

On the second day we went to Epcot which was awesome. I drank around the world and really enjoyed seeing all the different countries. Norway was of course my favorite (yay vikings!).

PicMonkey Collage3

Favorite drink: Grey Goose Citron Lemonade Slush in France. Delicious, and a perfect icy drink to cool you down.

On the third and final day we spent all of our time at Magic Kingdom. One of my friends was having her birthday there so we rode a few of the classic rides, had delicious food at the Wilderness Lodge, and celebrated her birthday.

PicMonkey Collage4

All in all, a magical experience. Well done, Disney. Well done.

First day in Florida and I’m already having a blast! Here’s a few photos of my adventures! Enjoy!

It started with a 7:00am flight…early, but beautiful views:

10551841_10151892256169567_1868311083_nThen I had a layover at O’Hare, jumped on another plane, and experienced fluffy clouds:

Landed in Sarasota around 12:30pm and met my first palm tree of the trip- I named him Fred:

I went straight from the airport to an Indian Buffet called India Palace with my friend A who I am staying with. The food was AMAZING:

10570012_739319179463922_1560260956_nWe then got a manicure/pedicure for the trip- MUCH NEEDED. By the time we were done walking around the mall, it was dinner time. BLACK BEAN BURGERS at a really cool place called S’macks:

And a close up pic of my nail color- kind of a Barbie watermelon color. Very summery! And a yummy peach iced tea:

10567956_10151892252864567_1247191154_nAfter dinner we rushed to the nearest beach for the sunset. One word: gorgeous: 10432163_10151892252824567_1470723430_nPretty flowers, pretty nails, pretty beaches:

Stay tuned for more pictures from the trip! Tomorrow I’ll be at Disney for the first time. Pretty excited! Thanks for reading and if you’re interested please follow me on Instagram & Twitter to keep up with what I’m up to.

Have a great day!

It’s my favorite time of the month again! Seriously, this summer has been going by super fast. Not sure how Stitch Fix works? Click here for more info! For this fix I asked my stylist Julia to pick things for my impending Florida trip: comfy theme park clothes, fun beach outfits, and going out for a nice meal pieces.  I was really looking forward to this fix. Unfortunately when I opened up the box this time, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. Here’s what they sent me:

PicMonkey CollageSo you may be wondering why I was disappointed? Well, a lot of these pieces are quite similar to ones that I had gotten from them previously. The cobalt blue top, although a bit different design-wise, is very similar to a top they gave me in a previous fix. Also, the coral colored top is another top that is quite similar in color and shape to this top. I just felt like they should know what I’ve already gotten and try and pick things that aren’t so similar. BUT ANYWAY, here’s my feelings on each of the items above:

Roma Cowl Neck Knit Top: Although this top is quite similar to one I kept from a fix previously, I really liked the fabric and how it draped on me. Also the lighter color would be great for a cooler shirt in Florida.

Defanie Diamond Ikat Print Soft Short: I like the idea of these shorts, but I’m not sure about the shape and length on me. They seem a bit gymshort-like? I’ll need your opinion to help me on this one!

Edmondo Stud Detailed Split-Back Blouse: I really wanted to love this top. The gold detailing and split in the back seemed right up my alley. Unfortunately, my chest area didn’t fit in this top, so perhaps if it were in a size bigger? Also one of the studs around the collar was missing- not a huge deal but for the price I wouldn’t want one that’s missing a piece. I also wish it were in a different color since I have a top from Stitch Fix in this exact same color and similar cut- a bit frustrating.

Alisa Striped Henley Hi-Lo Maxi Dress: A cute dress and super comfortable. Not sure if it’s something I would wear, but it would be nice to put over a swimsuit and is super airy and flowy. A bit plain, but could possibly be dressed up.

Candace Top-Zip Crossbody Satchel: Love the gold detail and that it’s in a black color, but not a huge fan on the shape of the bag and how it zips up at the top. Probably not going to keep this one, but I like the idea of it.

Well what do you guys think? What should I keep? Check out my pictures below and let me know in the comments which items you like the best!

I’m getting so excited for my trip to Florida! I can’t wait to see one of my best friends from college- plus I’m going to Disney for three days! For the first time! Oh my goodness! I’ve been shopping around for items that I might need on my trip, and at Gordmans I seemed to find quite a few things that will be great additions to my luggage!

IMG_3704I’m quite picky about sunglasses, and I’m still not 100% sold on these particular ones. But I really like the gold detail. My favorite pair of sunglasses that I’ve had for years probably will break soon (NOOOOOOOOOOO! 😦 ), so I’ve been looking for a replacement just in case it happens in Florida. I like really big frames (bigger the better, right?) and these are definitely smaller than my current favorites. We’ll see if I keep them or find a more similar pair to my oldies but goodies.

IMG_3705I’m a sucker for gold earrings- especially in geometric shapes. These seemed so beautiful and inexpensive I had to pick them up. They are a bit bohemian looking which I do like, but they can also be super classy. I love items that can work double duty. I’m also planning to wear dangly earrings in Florida (because why not) and these are a great addition to my collection.

PicMonkey CollagePretty much all of my purses/handbags are camel in color which seems to match everything I wear but sometimes I wish I had different colors to choose from. I was originally looking for a black purse, but I didn’t like the designs they had in stock. And then I saw this gorgeous thing: taupe with gold hardware. PERFECTION. I also love crossbody purses, so the long strap is a definite plus. And as an added bonus: POLKA DOT LINING. SO BEAUTIFUL.

These were on sale, and I had to have them. I thoughIMG_3707t they would be perfect to bring along to slip into after the beach, walking around Disney, or working out (if I get a chance…) with my friend A. Comfy, stretchy, neutral, and easy to wear: not a lot to say about this purchase, but I thought I would tell you about it anyway! 🙂

IMG_3703You know how much I love flats (and if you don’t check out my recent post about my flats collection). I’ve been obsessed with pointy toe flats and these were too cheap not to purchase. Just a pair of standard, black shoes. But they’ll go with everything and can maybe be my nicer pair? It will be hard not to wear them daily, though!

PicMonkey Collage2To be completely honest, I only bought these rings for the gold ones, but I’ll give the silver rings away to one of my friends. I absolutely love the chevron-style rings: one bigger that fits on my ring finger and one smaller one which fits perfectly on one of my toes. I thought that being at the beach and all, it might be cute to bring toe-rings back into my life: and pedicures, of course! 🙂

So there you have it! I am a bit of a shopaholic, I know, but I always find good deals wherever I go: plus when I have an impending trip coming up I can’t help but get a few new items to show off in a new location! Thanks so much for reading!
