Elizabeth & James Nirvana Perfume Review

First off, can we talk about the beautiful packaging? Seriously. I fell in love when I saw the full sized bottle on a few blogs and in Sephora. After contemplating buying the perfume for just the bottle, I decided to buy a sample size of the scent to see if it was something I would wear. The sample also came with the black scent so I could try that out as well.

And I ended up loving them both. Continue reading “Elizabeth & James Nirvana Perfume Review”

October Stitch Fix Haul

Have you ever wished that someone would style outfits for you? Maybe pick out items that are right up your alley without leaving the house? Well thanks to Stitch Fix you can do that! Continue reading “October Stitch Fix Haul”

It seems that dry shampoos have become quite popular recently. Since I’m usually quite a busy person, I really wanted to give them a try to (hopefully) save some time in my morning routine. Also, as someone who used to wash their hair everyday, I know that every other day is much better for your hair’s health. I’ve tried out three products so far, and honestly only one has made it to my favorite’s list.

LAST PLACE: Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo 500

As much as I wanted to love this (especially because of the scent and the naturalness of the ingredients) I felt like it didn’t really do a lot for me. Also, after just a few uses the spraying device at the top broke, and therefore I haven’t been able to use the rest of the product to test it out further- frustrating. It does smell really nice and is reasonably affordable- I just wish I could use the rest of the product to see if it really doesn’t work for me. It also seemed to dry my hair out, and left it almost crunchy feeling.

450SECOND PLACE: Pantene Dry Shampoo Blowout

This was the only dry shampoo I could find at my local drugstore in travel size for my trip to Oregon this past month. It was certainly conveniently sized and seemed to work at first, but after about a half day of walking around and such it seemed to wear off and my hair would go right back to the way it was when I woke up. It has a decent smell (nothing memorable) and the can definitely needs to be shaken well before use.

FIRST PLACE: Dove Refresh+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoohair_243x406_0016_dry-sh71-86824

Of all the dry shampoos I’ve tried (and believe me, I know there are more out there) this one was my favorite. It has a good smell, easy to use, and seems to really refresh my hair. I’ve also straightened bits of my hair after using this and it didn’t seem to interfere with the heat. My hair was left feeling soft and voluminous. I still have more testing to do on this one (new purchase) but so far, I really like how it reacts with my hair. I’ve also used it on first day hair to get the look of second day hair- it adds a bit of texture and volume that you only get from second day hair.

All in all I really enjoy using dry shampoo- it makes mornings where I want to sleep in and not redo my hair much more enjoyable, plus my hair gets to keep more of its natural oils and not strip the strands daily with wet shampoos. I also find that I can do more hairstyles and see more of what my hair can do when I don’t wet it down and style it the same way daily. It’s nice to see what else my hair is capable of!

Have you used dry shampoo? Which brands are you loving at the moment?

One word: Sale. It gets me every time. I should never be allowed to go into a Bath & Body Works, let alone during their biggest sale of the season. M (who you met in one of my latest blog posts “One of my Favorites“) wanted to go into BBW and get some soaps. I graciously offered to go along as moral support (and to make sure she didn’t go overboard). Well, that didn’t quite work out as planned. Let’s just say we both left the store carrying quite the heavy bag of goodies and a little less money in our wallets, but at least we’ll smell nice?

I’ve always been obsessed with their Eucalyptus Spearmint line, but I know the scent is not for everyone. I think it’s refreshing in the summer, and really helps open up your sinuses in the winter when you have a cold. And, I must admit, I absolutely love the color and details on the packaging so that certainly drew me to the line in the first place. When I walked into the store I was immediately hit in the face (figuratively, of course) with this huge sign and display saying:

“Buy 2, get 2 free Aromatherapy Products”

…and if you’re a regular BBW customer, you know that NEVER happens. EVER. Well…I had to get 4 items, and below are the items I chose along with an already half-used up candle in the same scent:

Seriously beautiful packaging, is it not? This smell really does relieve stress for me. When I’ve had a tough day and want to feel clean and relaxed, I reach for the body wash in this scent and then lather up with the lotion if I’m feeling extra stressed. Also, as weird as it might sound, my cat Myrtle loves this scent. When I light the candle she really seems to chill out and enjoy (from afar, of course) the candle’s aroma. I guess she has great taste!

I have yet to try the bath soak and luxury bath I bought, but I’m really excited to test them out on my next pamper evening- just take a deep breath in and feel your stress melt away!

What’s your favorite scent that relaxes you?

It’s that time again- let’s do this!

Henessy Speckled Braid Trim Racerback Tank: I’ve already worn this top once to an outdoor barbeque and I absolutely love it! It tucks in nicely and I really like the racerback detail. Definitely keeping.

Colibri Abstract Print Sleeveless Blouse: This top isn’t something I would pick up on my own, but I definitely like the cut of the top. The pattern is a bit girly for me and because of my larger bust, one of the buttons is a bit strained from the pressure. But I do like the idea of tucking it into a pencil skirt for a nice summery outfit.

Jake Slim Boot Cut Jean: Jeans are tough for me to love. They usually aren’t long enough (with my 36+ inch inseam) and these unfortunately weren’t either. Plus I’m more a fan of skinny jeans, not boot cut. Not keeping these.

Daire Sleeveless Fit & Flare Dress: Cute dress and I love the lace detail. Not super fitted on the top, but the dress is a good length for me. Not sure if I’ll keep it or not.

Ginnie Colored Gem Statement Necklace: Usually not one for super colorful, statement necklaces but I like the gold detail. Perhaps it’s a bit pink-y for me.

What do you think? Help me decide!

Anyone terrible at remembering to grab breakfast before you rush out the door? Well I seem to have found a great, homemade solution- and you make it the night before!

It seriously tastes delicious, is good for you, and helps tide you over until lunchtime. I got the Oster blender for my birthday and it really works great- I can use the same container I mix my smoothie in and take it with me on the go!

Here’s my new toy:

IMG_3380It came with two bottles, two caps and one blade that fits on both containers. I was hoping the blade lid would fit on a mason jar, but it’s just BARELY too big. Oh well. You can order more bottles online in different colors, which I might do just so I can make smoothies for the week ahead and store them in the fridge.

First thing you’ll want to do is blend up the oat/chia/flax mixture until it’s very similar texture to flour. Then add the liquids: I opted for 1/2 cup of almond milk and 1/2 cup of cranberry juice. After this step I think it’s best to put a lid on the container and hand shake the liquid so it starts mixing with the oat mixture, that way it doesn’t get stuck to the bottom of the container. Then add your yogurt, fruits, and anything else you want and blend away! The smoothie I made this time around has 1/2 cup blueberries and 1/2 cup of raspberries but any fruits amounting to 1 cup would work.

And here’s the recipe! It’s very flexible, so feel free to add/subtract/substitute anything to your liking:

  • 1/4 cup uncooked oats (old fashioned rolled oats recommended; do not use steel cut oats)
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons dried chia seeds/flax seeds
  •  1 cup liquid (mixture of milk, almond milk, and juice- whatever you have/prefer)
  • 1/4 cup yogurt (greek or lowfat)
  • 1 cup of any combination of fruit/berries (frozen or fresh)

Make sure and refrigerate overnight, or a minimum of 4 hours, so oats & chias can soften. It wiill keep in refrigerator 2-3 days. Shake before drinking.

CaptureHave a wonderful Monday!
