SEPTEMBER STITCH FIX HAUL

Have you ever wished that someone would style outfits for you? Maybe pick out items that are right up your alley without leaving the house? Well thanks to Stitch Fix you can do that!

If you’ve never heard of Stitch Fix, it’s a super simple process. First you fill out a fashion profile so the stylists can get to know what style you like to wear- or would like to wear more of. Then you can link your Pinterest style board (because come on guys, you know you have one) so they get even more of an idea of items you like. You pay $20 for them to send five items of clothing in the mail for you to try on and send back what you don’t like- it’s as simple as that! Also, if you decide to keep something in the box, the $20 fee to ship the box gets deducted from the item’s price. So technically the box would get shipped for free and you get $20 off the item! And if you decide to buy everything in the box you also get 25% off the total of all five items! Pretty cool, right? Your welcome.

Here’s the line up of items I got this month- quite autumnal, which is my favorite time of year!

PicMonkey Collage1A lot of patterns, am I right? I’m quite picky with patterns, but most of these were tasteful- just not quite my style. Here’s the rundown of what I thought of each piece:

Tinley Brush Stroke Infinity Scarf: Nice colors, and reminded me a lot of falling leaves. I’m usually not a huge fan of infinity scarves. They never seem to be quite as big and cozy as I like my scarves to be. I also wasn’t sure what to pair it with in my current wardrobe, so I sent it packing.

Conor Lace Detail Flutter Sleeve Blouse: This is my favorite piece in the set this month. I love the lace detail and I think the sleeves are very flattering. I already have a shirt quite similar to this one, but I think if I keep this one I’ll get rid of the other. It’s a better navy for my wardrobe and the lace detail makes the top much more interesting.

Tyson Scarf Print Tab-Sleeve Blouse: I wasn’t sure about the print of this top, but I absolutely loved the color. And when I read the shirt print is literally called “scarf print” my heart skipped a beat. Scarves and me…we have a great relationship. Unfortunately, my chest is a bit too big for this top. The buttons were semi-straining and you could see the tank top I had on underneath. It also is a bit too busy for my simple wardrobe, so I’m going to say goodbye.

Helina Hi-Lo Dress: I like the top detail of this dress- very geometric and interesting. Just not a huge fan of the jersey fabric and color. Probably going to say no to this one.

Melisa Geo Print Pencil Skirt: If this skirt were a shirt in this print I would probably keep it. Unfortunately, the skirt didn’t really do much for me. Seemed to be an awkward length and a jersey/stretch fabric that didn’t really hold its shape.

PicMonkey CollageA bit disappointed in this fix, to be honest. But every month is different and I still can’t wait to see what next month has in store!

AUGUST STITCH FIX HAUL

Have you ever wished that someone would style outfits for you? Maybe pick out items that are right up your alley without leaving the house? Well thanks to Stitch Fix you can do that!

Here’s the line up of items I got this month (and get ready guys, because this might be one of my favorite fixes yet!):

PicMonkey Collage(I am absolutely in love with the color combos in this fix- just sayin’)

Vinnie Open Crochet Detail Cardigan: Was a bit worried it would be granny-ish, but I love the lace-like detail on the back and the cream color. It should go with just about anything in my closet! I like it, but I don’t love it.

Jace Dot Print Fit & Flare Dress: I love this dress! Super stretchy and comfortable, and a lovely subtle print in a great color for me. Also it isn’t super short, which seems to be a theme with my long legs and regular dresses. If I throw on a cardigan, I would totally wear this to work or even a night out!

Henry Birds on Branch Infinity Scarf: I love scarves, so it’s hard to turn one down. I don’t have one in this vibrant blue, and I like the pattern. Not super in love, but I do like it. Lightweight material and a bit casual for my usual outfits.

Holden Striped Sheer Shortsleeve Blouse: I really like the cut of this blouse- a lot. I also really love the color scheme. Probably, most likely a definite keeper.

Corinna Striped Heathered Dolman Top: I’ve been into stripes lately and I really like how this top can be dressed up for a work day, but dressed down for a casual lunch. It’s also quite long which is awesome for me and the 3/4 sleeves make it great for any season.

POLKA-DOTS IN MY WARDROBE | #4

Next item of clothing I’m featuring today is one of my favorite accessories of all time- scarves. Although it’s getting warmer in Iowa, I still keep a scarf with me for those chilly summer evenings around the bonfire, and even rainy days. This is what I call my “Florida Scarf.” Every time I travel someplace new, I try and buy a scarf in that place to remember the trip (and get a new scarf out of the deal- what a bargain!). I bought it at the store Papyrus, which was super neat and not something I’ve seen in Iowa before. It’s lighter fabric, but still can keep your neck cozy on cooler days. Plus it’s polka-dotted and goes with everything!

MARCH STITCH FIX HAUL

My second Stitch Fix has arrived at my doorstep, and I am so excited to show you what they have in store for me this time!

PicMonkey Collage2

Some lovely choices this time around! In the note they said they enjoyed my style board on Pinterest and also noticed I really liked elephants- hence the elephant print blouse! They also listened this time and sent me a super chunky scarf, which I’m having a hard time not wearing all day long.

The cobalt blue shirt is a bit bright for my (usual) taste, but I love the gold accent on the buttons. It would be a great light shirt for summertime and the fabric seems very expensive and made well. I do love a good gold accent.

The cardigan was really nice and a color I never would have considered: white. It also was dressy on a work outfit but casual with a scarf and jeans. I love a multi-tasking cardigan.

The skirt is also a nice staple- everyone needs a black pencil skirt! It has unique seams and a subtle fabric texture which makes this a not-your-average pencil skirt. Looks like it might be the second skirt I keep from a Stitch Fix box.

Unfortunately the piece I was the most excited about, the elephant print blouse, is a bit tight in the shoulder area. But I really loved that they noticed things I liked and incorporated it into my box this month- and it wasn’t terribly tight, just wasn’t a stretchy fabric.

Here are a few outfits I pieced together using what they sent me:

Items I ended up keeping:

ALL OF THEM. I actually really liked them all, and when you buy all 5 items you get a 25% off discount. So I felt that this time it was worth getting all the pieces. They all seemed to work well for me!

Click here if you’re interested in trying out Stitch Fix: not to mention if you sign up using the link provided, I get $25 to use towards my next fix when you receive your first one. Just try it out for one month and I swear, you’ll be hooked!

ST PATRICK’S DAY IN CHICAGO | OOTD #3

PicMonkey Collagep

Super simple, sophisticated green outfit for St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago. Sorry about the lack of pictures in the outfit- I was busy roaming the streets of Chicago and had a coat on most of the day (a bit chilly). But here’s my outfit I wore to the festivities in Chicago:

Sweater: Lane Bryant- Yes, most people would think of Lane Bryant as a store I might not shop at, but they actually had this great, emerald green-colored sweater in their smallest size which made for a loose, comfortable fit that kept me warm all day. I loved the button detail on the end of the 3/4 sleeves, and a subtle fabric change where it goes from regular knit to more of a ribbed-knit look along the sides of the sweater. All in all, a perfect top for the day.

Scarf: Target- You might be able to tell more from my last blog post, but this is one of my most neutral scarves- it’s a tan/cream color with a few stripes of silver. I find it to be very versatile and perfect for a more colorful top to keep warm but add an accessory and a bit of sparkle.

Charcoal skinny jeans: American Eagle- No surprise there. You know how much I love my American Eagle jeans. Went for a charcoal color instead of regular blue jeans just for a bit of a different look.

I also painted my nails with Essie’s gold color and Sally Hansen’s jade green on one nail on each hand.

I hope you have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day!

WAYS TO WEAR A SCARF

If you know anything about me at all, you know how much I love scarves. I think they are the best accessory ever! If you don’t believe my addiction, here’s a picture of all my 13 scarves. They seriously take up HALF of my closet space, but so worth it:

If you’ve ever wanted to get into scarves or have a few but need some inspiration, this video shows many different ways you can wear them. Enjoy!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY | OOTD #2

I was out running errands today and happened to mosey into a dressing room at TJ Maxx (post about that accident later) with a full length mirror. I know my outfit today is nothing special, but it’s classic me on a day like today. Here’s my casual, out and about look for the day:

IMG_20140303_131604Gray Boyfriend V Tee- Target: If you ever go into Target, you know which V Tees I’m talking about- I have one in about every color and they are super comfortable and affordable. On sale all the time.

VERVE ami Navy Cardigan- TJ Maxx: One of the comfiest, softest cardigans in my closet. Drapes in the front and has a subtle change in fabric- from a ribbed texture to a regular knit.

Burnt Orange Scarf- I bought this at the Mall of America a few years ago, and I absolutely love it. A beautiful color that goes with pretty much everything in my wardrobe. I also bought a similar one in a mustard yellow that I’m sure I will include in a future OOTD.

Hi-Rise Skinny Jeans- American Eagle: Love love love these jeans! Great rise on me and I’m a big fan of AE Jeans because they come in extra long for my extra long legs, but they’re still form-fitting: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=0432_8254

Women’s Mad Love Laksha Canvas Shoes- Target: Pretty much a knock-off of Toms, but super cheap and comfortable: http://www.target.com/p/women-s-mad-love-laksha-canvas/-/A-14363753#prodSlot=medium_1_23&term=women%27s%20canvas%20shoes

MOSSIMO Leather-Brown Purse- Goodwill: One of my favorite purses when I don’t have a whole bunch to carry around- just my wallet, sunglasses, etc. Was a great find and matches all of my outfits.

Hope you’re all having a wonderful day!
